PRODUCTS: A diversity of row crops, including many Asian vegetables

PEOPLE: Peter and Cha Moua, their son, Chue Yee Moua, and 2 full-time workers, along with occasional help from several other family members and 3 seasonal workers

FARMLAND: 10 acres in Fresno, about 180 miles from the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market

FARM HISTORY/PHILOSOPHY: The Moua family is originally from Laos; they immigrated to the United States from Thailand in 1987. The Mouas are part of a large community of Hmong people in the Fresno area, many of whom came to the United States to escape persecution from the Laotian government (which came under communist rule in 1975) for helping the U.S. during the Vietnam War.

SOIL: To enhance soil fertility, Chue’s Farm mulches, plants cover crops, and uses synthetic fertilizers.

PESTS: To control pests, they rotate crops and spray weeds with an herbicide. The Mouas hand-pick and pack almost all of their produce the day before they come to market.

CERTIFICATIONS: None

FUN FACT: Chue’s Farm sells their produce exclusively at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, and to The Slanted Door restaurant.
