PEOPLE: Niman Ranch employs more than 75 people and contracts with more than 600 farms and ranches

ABOUT: Niman Ranch began selling beef raised on their Marin ranch to Bay Area Restaurants in the early 1970s. Today, they work cooperatively with family farms and ranches across the United States.Their livestock is processed in Utah (Beef), California (Lamb), and Iowa (Pork).

SOURCING: Pork is produced by more than 400 farms in 11 states, lamb by 10 ranches in three states, and beef by 40 ranches in 10 states. Ranches that hold contracts with Niman Ranch must abide by the company's protocols which include no administration of antibiotics or hormones and all vegetarian feeds. A very small percentage of their livestock is raised in California.

FUN FACT: Every year, Niman Ranch hosts the "Niman Ranch Farmer Appreciation Dinner" in Des Moines Iowa, also known as "The Hog Dinner." 2008 marks the 10th anniversary of this event.
